The flexible working model, which was adopted in 2020 amid the nationwide lockdown to check the spread of the pandemic, is going to continue in the long run.
Some companies like Mondelez and Tata Steel are hiring for permanent work-from-home (WFH) roles, while many others including Maruti Suzuki, Mphasis and ITC are either following a location-agnostic approach for certain roles or embracing partial remote working model, with employees coming to office for a couple of days in a week, in the long run.
Back in December 2020, steel major Tata Steel had implemented an 'Agile Working Model' policy. Under this, the job positions were classified into two categories: 'absolute work from home', wherein the employee can work from any location in India, and 'flexi work from home', wherein the officers who are required to be based out of a particular location can work from home for unlimited days in a year.
Companies are hiring people for both kinds of positions based on the business needs. There is no differentiation in salary based on employees' availability at office.
As per findings, over 50% of employees in the mid-sized IT/ITeS, banking, infrastructure, retail, chemical, logistics, and manufacturing sectors are working from offices.
